MENTORS

The Mentor Program of the Academy of Forensic Nursing Science (AFNS) is the ideal place to find a mentor, or if you are already an established forensic professional, the ideal place to serve as a mentor.

Mentoring is both an art and a science. It is the process by which those with more experience provide advice, support, and knowledge to those with less experience. Mentors provide potential opportunities for professional growth, through instruction, coaching and participation in scholarly activities and events. Mentoring can lead to a variety of benefits such as higher levels of satisfaction with career experiences, more productive careers, improved skills and increased ability to make significant contributions to the advancement of forensic nursing science. Mentors provide a reality based orientation to the ever-evolving discipline of forensic science and share their vast knowledge and experiences with the student. They have first-hand knowledge of what it takes to succeed and how to reach career goals.

Mentoring is a rewarding experience for both mentor and apprentice. Mentors enjoy both the challenges and rewards that come with supporting future forensic scientists and forensic practitioners.

Both mentor and apprentice must be members of the organization. Become a member and enjoy the experience.
